Subject: Testimony in Support for JCCK's Nonprofit Grant Application of FY 2021-2022—
The Japanese Cultural Center of Kona Board of Directors appreciates the support from the
County of Hawaii Nonprofit Grant regarding funding for Land Acquisition Due Diligence Woltz
The preliminary amount of$9,900 listed in Exhibit "A" will surely help JCCK's pursuit of a
currently targeted parcel as home for the Cultural Center.
Volunteers of JCCK have been investing much effort for several years in researching the
feasibility of many parcels in West Hawaii. Many volunteers are highly regarded State level
professionals in their fields of planning, cultural, flora and fauna impact issues, flood issues,
topography, water requirements, and in other areas. Currently due diligence work is focused on
a particular targeted property.
Prior to the JCCK Board making a decision to purchase the targeted property, professional
assurances will be necessary from the experts. JCCK needs to hire and compensate them. The
JCCI< Board has compiled a pool of experts necessary to help advance the project. Also, in
consummating the purchase of the parcel, lawyers, realtors, appraisers, surveyors, engineers,
and other consultants will be needed. This is the purpose of JCCK's request for grant funds.
The Cultural Center once developed will serve the people of Kona, Island of Hawaii, State of
Hawaii, and people from all around the globe. It will be a peaceful gathering place and serving
as a melting pot, spreading the Kona Aloha to all people of all ages, ethnicity, religion, gender,
sexual orientation, and races. The gardens, pathways, koi ponds, and bonsai trees will give
people time for respite and reflection. It will be a carbon free Center. There will be much for
youth participating in martial art sports, choir singing, origami making, international student
exchanges, school tours, to name a few.
In summary, the JCCK Board appreciates the $14,250 fund appropriated in the County's
Nonprofit Grant for FY 2020-2021. We look forward to your support again for the preliminary
$9,900 allocation to JCCK for FY 2021-2022. Thank you and Mahalo Nui Loa.
