Resolution 94-21: AUTHORIZED THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO
AN AGREEMENT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII
Council Chair David, Council Vice Chair Chung, and members of the Hawaii County
Council:
Thank you for the opportunity to submit testimony in support of Resolution 94-21, which
will authorize the Office of the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the University of
Hawaii and funds the amount of$150,000 to the University of Hawaii to provide
research for the establishment of shoreline and riparian setbacks.
These funds will support the good work done by the Spatial Data Analysis and
Visualization (SDAV) Research Laboratory at UH Hilo to provide the research and data
to support a more comprehensive and effective coastal development setback policy.
The work by SDAV in this project represents a collaborative partnership between our
students, faculty, and County of Hawaii. This resolution will provide our students and
faculty a significant opportunity to provide meaningful data to the County to better inform
future policy.
We appreciate the opportunity to submit testimony in support of this resolution.
