A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION OF A BRONZE STATUE OF A MYTHOLOGICAL FISHERMAN TO THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I .
WHEREAS, Henry Bianchini is a local sculptor and craftsman who sailed into Hilo Bay on August 21, 1969 on a 30’ self-built trimaran, “Island Dancer;” and
WHERAS, Henry Bianchini and his shipmate, James “Ole” Olsen, witnessed the Mauna Ulu eruption after 19 days at sea, which gave him a unique sense of place. Here it became possible
to live his dream of growing his family and his life in art; and
WHEREAS, Henry Bianchini would like to donate “HO‘OMALULE ‘UPENA KILOI” (Metamorphosis of a Net Fisherman), a cast bronze statue (Exhibit A) to the Department of Parks and Recreation
and to the Hawaiian host culture in honor of the diversity of our island; and
WHEREAS, HO‘OMALULE ‘UPENA KILOI will be located at the recreational area commonly known as “Isles”; and
WHEREAS, HO‘OMALULE ‘UPENA KILOI is valued at $10,000; and
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawai‘i County Charter provides that the Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts of donations of money, securities or other personal
property or of real estate or any interest in real estate, and Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162 (a) of the Hawai‘i County Code states that any gifts or donations of money, securities,
or personal property which fall within the capitalization procedures of the Department of Finance, may be accepted by resolution approved by the Council; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation recommends the acceptance of this donation; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that in accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawaiʻi County Charter, and Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162(a)
of the Hawai‘i County Code, the Council of the County of Hawaiʻi accepts this donation.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Department of Finance and the Office of the Mayor.
