Subject: Resolution 105-21
My husband, Michael, and I have lived on Road One-Uhini Ana Road-Hawaian Acres since May, 1982,thirty-nine years.
The changes have been many through the years from (1)the"pot"growers of the 80s who didn't want good roads which might
invite unwanted visitors (the authorities)to their driveways, (2) next the young families with children who wanted better roads so
that school buses could get in to transport their children, (3)followed by an aging population who are concerned about police and
emergency vehicles (ambulances and fire trucks) being able to access our homes on Road One,just to name a few.
The population of the Acres has and continues to grow each year with subsequent increasing traffic on Road One. Heavy equipment
brought in to clear land in order to build homes has taken a tole on Road One. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Road One,
such as it is, has become a major artery for ingress and egress for other subdivisions in Puna, especially during emergencies,ie,
natural disasters such as flooding, vehicle accidents, etc.
My husband and I fully support research to find a solution to how we can get Road One upgraded to a safe, efficient, passable road.
(This does not negate the need for upgrades on other roads within the Acres...one step at a time)There is a price tag to any solution
but the time is long past due to"bite the bullet"so to speak and take action to upgrade Road One-Uhini Ana Road, Hawaiian Acres.
Mahalo for your timely consideration of this request.
Aloha,
Margaret and Michael Bartelt
