Subject: Roads in Hawaiian Acres.

We have lived in Hawaiian Acres for more than 13 years. My wife works in Pahoa. I am retired. Since we have lived
here my wife has been required to drive 25 miles one way to get to her job because of the condition of the roads in
Hawaiian Acres. In that time, I have gone through 3 vehicles because of the condition of the roads in Hawaiian
Acres. I have had to be transported to the hospital for heart related problems. My wife had to take me to the fire
house for transport by ambulance to the hospital because of the condition of the roads in Hawaiian Acres. Since our
moving to Hawaiian Acres the amount of traffic in the Acres have grown. In 2007 I would encounter maybe 3
vehicles coming and going now that number has risen to more than 15.
I understand that Hawaiian Acres and its roads were planned when I was young I am now 76 years old. Times were
different then and access to the acres was also different.This is now and times have most certainly changed. Those
of us who live in Hawaiian Acres are most certainly members of this community who pay taxes and purchase our
goods from the local community. Why should we pay a higher premium to have services come to our homes
because of the condition of the roads in Hawaiian Acres that were planned when I was young. We are asking for the
help of the County to resolve this problem. I donate $100.00 dollars a month for road maintenance in my area plus
others have donated for the same cause. Since the increase in our numbers of residence and the major increase in
vehicle traffic my monthly donation coupled with any and all HARC fees and donations cannot keep pace with the
collapse of these roads. We need the Counties help. These matters are all eclipsed by the real possibility of
emergency egress from Hawaiian Acres in case of a disaster. Never forget we live in this community just as you do,
we are your neighbors and in some cases your relatives. Please do not abandon us!
