RE: Road Improvement District for Hawaiian Acres Resolution 105-21
I am writing in support of Resolution 105-21 as a citizen of Hawaii County, a resident of Hawaiian
Acres, and a former member of the board of HARC and Puna Connectivity Committee.
We have tried for many years to do something for the infrastructure of Hawaiian Acre roads,both
through our corporations, the County Council, and the legal system. Our voluntary road dues system is
totally inadequate to maintain, let alone improve, our roadways. It might be possible if the roads only
supported our residents but this is not the case. Of particular concern is Road One, Uhini Ana road
because this serves as one of the two major ingress/egress roads into the subdivision. This roadway
serves residents, emergency vehicles, police, school buses, delivery services, utility trucks and services
etc. Our roadways are also used when the county diverts traffic because of accidents or construction on
Highway 130.
I am sure the council is aware of all the avenues we have pursued in getting help.
We have tried to have the county come up with solutions to help us help ourselves, such as road dues
being part of property taxes, or mandatory dues, or grants, or countless ideas that have all fallen on
seemingly deaf ears.. This proposal at least seems viable as we will be assuming the cost of the project.
Please help us, I believe pictures have been submitted to show the direness of the situation. We pay
our property taxes, our road fee taxes, our gasoline taxes, please allow us to have some help. c,;
Respectfully submitted 27
