Testimony for Resolution 105-21
If it pleases the committee: I am a long-time resident and landowner of Hawaiian Acres and I wholeheartedly support
the road initiative. With the rising cost of living, Hawaiian Acres is experiencing unprecedented growth in our
neighborhood. The need to give everyone acceptable, equitable access to travel to and from work or school safely is a
priority.
As it stands now, less than 25% of employers offer fewer than 5 days of paid sick time per year. Missing out on work
for 1 day due to road floods or car trouble could mean all the difference for a working family. Additionally, improved
roads would allow mass transit and bicycle access for those without reliable car transportation to participate in our
economy. The investment is worth it for the keiki, kupuna and the community at large to be safe, secure and
prosperous.
Please consider the life outcomes and experiences for a keiki with 10 years of access to improved roads and what life
would be like for a keiki with 10 years with deteriorating, unimproved roads. Which keiki would show up to school
more? Be better able to participate in extracurriculars, get a part-time job or help their family, seniors and community
out more? Who might be more protected by law enforcement or fire fighters should a situation arise? Which keiki
would have better access to health care and emergency medical services? Or critical social services?
I know with the roadimprovement people's lives would visibly change for the better in the now and in the long-run.
Isn't that the goal for any community? Hawaiian Acres is no different, and humbly needs your com nitr nt,
foresight, and support. That's why I support it.
