My name is Douglas Schabell and I would like to comment on resolution 501-01.
I am currently president of The Hawaiian Acres Community Association.
I would like to go on record as supporting this resolution.
It has become apparent to many of our community members that our voluntary road association is unable to support
and maintain our current road system.
Lack of voluntary funding and massive damage to our road system over the last few years due to weather events has
created an alarming deterioration of our private road system. This has created a serious safety issue for police, fire
and, ambulance service response. Times of 40 to 50 minutes for emergency response contact is not unusual when
these services are needed.
With the increase in population in Hawaiian Acres the need for this road improvement district, is a step in the right.
direction. Mandatory fees would be a costly process involving legal and possibly court costs. Also,this improvement
district would remove our voluntary associations from the politics within the community and create a clear path
forward for all Hawaiian Acres landowners to understand and make logical and informed decisions as to costs and
long term maintenance for our roads.
I am asking today for the finance committee to pass this resolution and forwarded to the full council for consideration
and help our community help itself.
