SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION URGING THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL
MANAGEMENT TO ENSURE THAT DESTINATIONS TO WHICH
THE COUNTY OF HAWAII TRANSPORTS ITS RECYCLABLE WASTE FOR
OUT-OF-STATE PROCESSING ABIDE BY THE ENVIRONMENTAL
STANDARDS OUTLINED BY THE BASEL CONVENTION.
The Hawaii County Council encourages the Department of Environmental Management to align with
the State of Hawaii in making sure that out-of-state locations accepting our recyclable waste follow
the guidelines established by the Basel Convention.
Attached is a resolution for the County of Hawaii stating that it should support this effort without
delay.
