HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0183.051 2020-2022 1e April 22, 2021 This letter is being written in support of Mark Stan Pernis as a Leeward Planning Commissioner', I have known Mark for upwards of thirty years. For part of that time he was my attorney, and represented me during my real estate career. Over that time Mark, Christi, and I became friends, Being a high-profile broker or attorney, working on sensitive properties is a bit of a tight-ropy dance. On one side is our fiduciary obligation to our clients and on the other one has a kuleana to protect the aina for the community, I worked with Mark on some of these types of issues and watched him work with others as well, The large fees involved can sometimes influence some peoples actions. In all my dealings with Mark this was never an issue. He was always pond. I found Mark to be honorable, respectful and truly sincere in his approach to land development, whether recommending it or presenting a case against:it, He is one of the few people in a positron of power, who genuinely care about our community and the Big Island, Mark is at an age and financial position that would allow hurt to spend the balance of his days on a golf course or lounging in a beach chair, The fact that he passionately wants to remain active in our local politics as a statement unto itself, We are at the dangerous crossroads of leaning too far pro-business as we recover from the pandemic and the long-term unsustainable tourism and development that proceeded it. With people from the mainland clamoring for our safe-harbor,and their dollars changing the way the live, now more than ever we need a concerned citizens on the Planning Commission to protect the remaining beauty of Hawaii. Stmcerely, Richard Rocker Ref. T : Ref. Date MAY 0 4 202
