Dear Ms. David and Members of the Hawaii County Council,
Thank you for once again, making grants available to nonprofit organizations that serve the
needs of Hawai'i Island's communities.
We write today in support of the Island of Hawai'i YMCA's requests for financial assistance for
two of our programs: the Family Visitation Center Program and our Youth Services-New Horizons
Program.
The YMCA's Family Visitation Center is one of the few options that a family can turn to, that will
enable a non-custodial parent to maintain a relationship with their child. Of the victims of
domestic violence, it is the children who suffer the most. The Family Visitation Center provides a
safe and home-like venue for visits and exchanges to take place to help to address the hurt and
anger.
Our Youth Services-New Horizons program provides a nurturing environment for young children
during summer and non-school breaks. Participating children are immersed in several different
practical learning activities that are designed to help them learn creative and expressive skills,
and social and analytical skills. Activities such as theater and arts,journal writing, cursive writing,
cultural dance,water play, anger management, peer relations, distance learning, and more.
We would like to express our gratitude for the Council's past support for the Island of Hawai'i
YMCA's programs and hope that our requests for financial assistance will be approved for the
coming 2021-2022 fiscal year.
