Dear Chair Sue Lee Loy,Vice Chair Ashley Kierkiewicz and members of the Committee on
Human Services and Social Services:

We are grateful to the County of Hawaii and this year's Nonprofit Grant Program Ad-Hoc
Committee for the financial assistance and awards. This year's process,while different, aspires
to be a catalyst for positive change across many sectors and lays the foundation for better
collaboration between, public, private,and philanthropic partnerships.
The absence of the State's Grant in Aid program this year, hit many programs designed to
assist those less advantaged in our society,very hard and also made the work of this year's Ad-
Hoc Committee challenging and their shift for the presentations of our objectives,activities,
outputs,outcomes and impact was a transparent demonstration of how our programs are
reaching the most vulnerable in our community.
This year's Ad-Hoc asked thorough and thoughtful questions;especially the critical questioning
about the barriers our programs are challenged with and we look forward to more
collaboration to overcoming these challenges.
This grant program is essential to ensure that After-School All-Stars Hawaii can continue to
deliver free after-school programs to the most disadvantaged middle school students in our
communities, providing students additional academic assistance,social-emotional support and
simply the opportunity to learn and play through enrichment and sports activities.We greatly
appreciate your consideration for this grant.
