This land in its natural form serves the island by filtering water that runs off into the ocean. The plant life is also native and is able to respond to the weather conditions. It does not require more care and maintenance as does much of the plant life brought into the hotels and condominiums. The health of Hawaii does not benefit from altered landscapes that use a lot of water, pesticides and fertilizers. The island draws in visitors from all over the world. It is a treasure and viewed as a prime vacation location. What draws people there is the beauty of the land. The beaches. The sunrise and sunsets. The tropical atmosphere. Further development of the land is unnecessary. Preservation of the island should be the priority. The impact on the ocean and wildlife should be a priority. Growing up on the island-there was a great deal of emphasis on being eco-conscious- treating the land with care and respect. This should be enforced by the adults and representatives making decisions about the island's future. There are ample hotels and vacation rentals to accomodate tourism. Each parcel of land has its value and it is not limited to construction. There is value to nature being natural. Providing the message to visitors that the island's natural beauty is worth preserving. Preserve the land. Respect the land. What makes the island special? It's the open, natural spaces that feel like Hawaii. It's the culture and traditions. We need to really consider what we are doing to this island. I grew up there and I see the impact. It's heartbreaking. We can change. We can be responsible and be an example for others. Value the land. Please save this space. Respectfully, Marissa Brake Cornrn. o. Ref. To: i [[ Ref. ate MAY 0 1 1
