Hello,
My name is Miranda. Although I did not grow up on the island, it has had such a major impact on my
family. My mom grew up in Hawaii and on occasion, we get to visit and see these treasured places that
hold many memories for her. The land is cherished not only for its views but for the greater purpose it
serves. Protecting and prioritizing the land and the wildlife that inhabit it is crucial. The Res 80-21:
KEAKEALANIWAHINE AT BANYANS (AHUPUA'A OF HOLUALOA) is a place of cultural practice and
provides space for the famous Keiki Surf Contest. If this land is taken and built upon, not only will it
obstruct the shoreline view but prevent the cultural practices of the island. What should matter is the land,
the people, and maintaining the beautiful ecosystem. Although tourism can be profitable, eventually it will
bring in nothing if the land is devastated. It is critical that this land is maintained and not misused. It serves
the ecosystem and the community and should continue to do so without interruption and destruction.
