Subject: Budget Hearing - financing for Alii Drive sewer line extension
My husband and I and our daughter and son-in-law bought property and have recently moved to Kona. We were
surprised to hear that there is a I mile long stretch of sewer line missing from roughly Kahalu'u Beach and Queen
Kalamazoo Drive and that there are cess pools along Ali'i Drive that empty each day into the ocean at high tide.
This is of great concern to us as we understand swimmers in that area have and can become infected with staph and
other infections from that situation. Our family surfs and swims in that area and we are now very concerned.
We believe it is the governments responsibility to protect the health of its residents. Our taxes pay for this.
We urge you to please put into the budget funds necessary to correct this threat to the health of our new and loved
community of Kona, and that you see to it that this is corrected as soon as possible.
I am sure that public attention to this problem could adversely affect the tourist business and future home
buying. You must recognize this.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this urgent concern.
