Alii Drive Sewer connection needmCEIVED Attachments: Ali'i Drive no sewer lines north of Kahalu'u to Queen Kaf * • --- Date MAY 1 4 2021 Aloha Council members- Please include in your budget financing to extend the Alii Drive sewer line for the approximately I mile long stretch that is missing from roughly Kahalu'u Beach to Queen Kalama Drive (see attached map). There are still cess pools along Ali'i Drive that empty each day into the ocean at high tide. Surfers and swimmers frequently get staph and other infections in this area. I was in the hospital twice during 2020 because of an infection from swimming at Kahalu'u. News of these infections would adversely affect the tourist industry on the island. Isn't the fundamental responsibility of the government to protect the health and welfare of citizens? Please authorize funding to get this project "shovel- ready" to be prepared for stimulus or other grant funding. Funding could possibly found from the Environmental Protection Agency or the State. Cess pools in the Alii Drive area has been a problem for more than 20 years, it's time to make this a priority before more people get sick. Mahalo for your consideration.
