Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 285, reports as follows:
Communication No. 285, transmitted by the Honorable Mayor Mitchell D. Roth dated May 27, 2021,
nominates Donala Kawa`auhau of Council District 4 to the Salary Commission.
Executive Assistant to the Mayor, P6maika`i Bartolome, introduced the nominee. A lifelong resident
of Hawaii Island, Ms. Kawa`auhau has served as an associate professor in Marketing and Management
at the Hawaii Community College since 2008. Ms. Kawa`auhau holds a PhD in Applied Management
and Decision Sciences and a master's degree in Audio Production and Sound Design. If confirmed,
Ms. Kawa`auhau would serve on the Salary Commission for one term ending on December 31, 2025.
Finance Committee Members Ashley L. Kierkiewicz and Susan L. K. Lee Loy provided comments in
support of Ms. Kawa`auhau's nomination.
Pursuant to Hawaii County Charter Article XIII Section 13-28, there shall be a Salary Commission
which shall be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 285 and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of Ms. Donala Kawa`auhau to the Salary Commission.
