A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION OF AN ‘ALALA (HAWAIIAN CROW) ENCLOSURE TO THE COUNTY OF HAWAIʻI DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION.
WHEREAS, the Friends of Pana‘ewa Zoo is donating an ‘Alala (Hawaiian Crow) enclosure to the County of Hawai‘i Department of Parks and Recreation; and
WHEREAS, the ‘Alala enclosure, valued at $143,409.04, will be located at the Pana‘ewa Zoo and utilized as the only public exhibit in the world of this endangered native species; and
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawaiʻi County Charter, provides that the council, on behalf of the county, may accept gifts of donations of money, securities, or other personal
property or of real estate or any interest in real estate; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation recommends the acceptance of this donation; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I, , in accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawaiʻi County Charter, the County of Hawaiʻi, accepts this donation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a letter of appreciation and a copy of this resolution be sent to Pat Engelhard, President, The Friends of Pana‘ewa Zoo, PO Box 738, Kea‘au, HI 96749.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Department of Finance, and the Office of the Mayor.
