I I
Aloha mai kakou,
My name is Rhea Akoi and I am providing written testimony to
w
support Resolution 130-21 relating to the Centennial Celebration of the--
Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1920.
am grateful to Jonah Kuhio who had the foresight to help and
improve the lives of native Hawaiians to become self-sustaining by
legislating this Act. The Act has afforded many of us a place to live
comfortably and happy among our Hawaiian people.
I am a third generation homesteader living in Keaukaha for at least 90
years of my entire life. Currently, three more generations of my family are
living harmoniously on this land at 359 Todd Ave. My family, past and
present, have worked hard on our land and have built homes that we are
very proud of. Having land to live on has allowed my children,
grandchildren, and great grandchildren to focus on pursuing an education
and become economically stable and self-reliant.
Celebrating the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1920 is a way of
expressing our gratitude for the benefits we receive as beneficiaries. As a
native Hawaiian and beneficiary of the Hawaiian Home Commission Act,
humbly ask that you as our representatives pass Resolution 130-21
honoring the celebration of this Act.
Mahalo,
Mrs. Rhea Akoi
COMM.
