Subject: Support for Reso 130-21
All members of the Hawaii County Council,
Welina mai,
I am Patrick L. Kahawaiolaa, a native Hawaiian as defined, pursuant to the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act, 1920,
amended July 9, 192142, 42 stat. 108, 67th Congress and the current President of the Keaukaha Community
Association, (KCA).
I'm sending this Testimony in Support of Resolution 130-21, related to the Centenial Celebration of the Hawaiian
Homes Commission Act 1920. Resolution 130-21 is schedule to being heard June 1, with the time to be announced_..
As a Product of the Homestead, ainahoopulapula ma Keaukaha I am in full support of paying homage to the Act of
Congress, introduced during the Territory of Hawaii by Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole who served as the Delegate
to the U. S. House of Representatives from Hawaii Territory's At-Large District from 1903-1922.
This legislation was incorporated as a proviso of Statehood in 1959 and imbedded into the Admissions Act Article
XII, Sec.4 and Hawaii State Constitution. This Supreme Law of the Land by Statutes is now being administered by
the State of Hawaii, through the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL)...at the inception of said Act the first
settlers to be awarded a lease of a tract of land and physically occupied a tract of land having the status of Hawaiian
Home first on the island of Molokai at Kalamaula (12115124 then on the island of Hawaii (12/16/24).
I remind Proud of a heritage which was one of service and dedication to his people by the last Alii Prince Jonah
Kuhio whom we just celebrated his 150th birthday.. While also working in Congress to create the Hawaiian Homes
Commission Act, he Prince Kuhio was instrumental in working specifically for Hawaii Island by gaining
appropriations to build the Hilo Wharf, establishing the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, but like many of his
accomplishments my favorite was Kuhio shaped the foundation of Hawaii's modern governmental structure as Kuhio
was responsible for instituting the County system still in place today...
Therefore as a native Hawaiian, I humbly and respectfully ask you the representatives of Hawaii County and its
people, for a favorable decision on Resolution 130-21 to have all of us honor the Centennial Celebration of the
Hawaiian Homes Commission Act, 1920.
I call be reached at(808) 937-8217 if more info is needed.
`Owau
