Aloha mai kakou,
I am Kaaka Swain, a third generation resident and current leasee in Keaukaha on Hawaiian Homes
Land. I support this resolution for the celebration of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act. If were not
for this act, Hawaiians and non-Hawaiians here in Hilo would not be able to have some of the things
we have now. Although we may not have much, we have provided a lot. The industrial area, the
Prince Kuhio Plaza, WalMart, Home Depot, Puhi Bay, just to name a few. A celebration is in order for
our county not only for DHHL beneficiaries but for all who benefit from it. Through this
celebration maybe we will be able to educate those who do not understand the act and it's purpose.
