Hawaii County Council,
Solar Matters strongly supports Communication 104.7 that adds $5 million to the Capital
Improvement Budget (Bill 22 D 2) for improvements to Mahukona Park in North Kohala.
Since 2008, the Action Committee of the North Kohala Community Development Plan has
called for funding to replace of the pavilion at Mahukona Park as the community's highest
priority in the CIP. Despite that, the park was allowed to deteriorate to where it was
condemned, boarded up, and the entire park has been unsafe for over two years.
The Save Mahukona Action Committee and the Parks, Water, Roads Group of the CDP have
been working with the Parks and Recreation Department to plan and rebuild the pavilion.

Please include in the $5 million in CIP funding for Mahukona Park to remove the condemned
structure and rebuild it.
