I find it very disappointing that changes are being adopted to the current building code, when the county is not enforcing the codes that already exist. Our HOA I has been trying to get a meeting with those in charge of the Hawaii County Building Department since early April to discuss this very issue, to no avail. We have also requested a meeting with Mayor Roth regarding the same issues, with no response except 3 a computer generated response saying he would get back to us in a week or two, that was months ago and still no response. I have a trail of emails where Hawaii Building Department heads are cc:d and ask to respond, with not a response from one. Very 3 disappointing by those in charge. i i Again, why are you updating the building codes when you are not enforcing the ones you 3 already have? When a building inspector goes to a building site and sees code violations i but cannot red tag or stop construction until violations are corrected, something is wrong with our system. Since we cannot get answers from our local elected officials and our department heads, maybe it is time to do what they did in Honolulu and bring in the State of Hawaii and the 3 FBI to do an investigation of the Building Department. I am very disappointed and sad it has come to this, as I expected better f rom those that represent us. 3 I Irene Eklund Discovery Harbour i Na'alehu, HI 96772 3 i s i Comm. No Ref.
