Aloha All,
As a practicing Architect in Hawaii now for 9 years and as technology has advanced considerably in both the Design
and Construction worlds, I believe updating to the 2018 IBC, 2018 IRC and IEBC, building codes is very important
for the health, safety and welfare of our Island residents.
Smart technology, advances in building materials, electrical and plumbing materials have way out paced our current
2006 building code and even the 2012 building codes.
On a personal level, it is important to have certainty in what codes will be applicable for projects in the design
process. This is important both for financial reasons due to necessary software and code access upgrades and because
of the time involved in reviewing and understanding the changes in codes.
Mahalo for your work on this important issue and thanks to the County staff who are working to make this happen.
