Every Wednesday night, for those 22 years, I have taken my guitar, my friends and family, some potluck food and spent the evening hours playing music, watching the sunset, eating, drinking and gathering with my Kohala Ohana. It is one of the few places we can do that anymore, and it is very special to me, and to us, particularly as the members of this tight knit community age and start to find themselves more alone due to loss of partners or families. During the pandemic, some of our community were struggling because of the lack of community and contact. Once we re-instated our"Wednesday night Potluck", these people were able to connect with each other, offer support , conversation and return to a normalcy that has been missing. Please allow us to continue this tradition, allow us to steward our sacred place, allow us to purchase the land from the owners of the 640 Mahukona acreage. I understand they are on off-shore investment company, and with all due respect, they will never know or understand what this land means to us, and more so to the Kupuna of Kohala, whose memories and malama reach back generations. Thank you for your consideration Sincerely Jack Hutchings Comm. No. Ref. To. Ref. Pete 1
