Subject: Resolution 145
Dear County Council Members
I am writing to urge your support of Resolution 145, enabling negotiation for public ownership and
protection of Mahukona.
This historically important land which is a awesomely beautiful, inspiring and important
gathering/swimming/fishing/walking/laau gathering place to our community. For over 45 years, I have treasured the
fun, wonder and beauty of Mahukona for regular swimming, hiking, and meeting friends. There are precious few
places along our North Kohala coast where it is safe to enter the ocean, but the ladder and deep bay at Mahukona
offers swimmers safe access to the wonderful coral reefs.
I have spent many delightful hours visiting with family and friends there.
Mahukona provides our local families and the general public a place for wonderful memories to be made.
Please preserve this land so that we can continue to enjoy regular access. Thank you so much for your important help
in this matter.
Sincerely,
Anne Pontius
