My family and I have used and enjoyed the Mahukona area since the 1980's when we moved to Kohala from Oahu. At Mahukona, we camped, snorkeled, bamboo-pole fished with the kids, kayaked and watched the whales. My wife and I still occasionally walk the old railroad right of way, watch sunsets, and with friends, launch our kayaks to fish off shore. As a member of E Mau Na Ala Hele in the late 1990's and early 2000's, we worked with Senator Akaka's office to promote the establishment of the Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail, part of which is located on the Mahukona-Kapa'a parcels. There is no other location in North Kohala with calm water where families can easily access the ocean for these activities. We don't have the beach parks of South Kohala or Kona. Please keep Mahukona in the public domain. It will make a wonderful park for the residents of North Kohala Mahalo, Keith Wallis Resident of Kapa'au. u{y Hb : - ¢¢q1i z?aY+jg•sJiSt1i4 Jr lj t. IT;r ' Comm. No. Ref.
