Aloha Council Chair David and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Roberta Ku`ulei Keakealani of District 9 to the Cultural Resources
Commission. Ku`ulei was raised in a family who lives close to the land and whose knowledge of
the lands and oceans are noteworthy and rare. She is passionate in ha`i mo`olelo, storytelling,
and is literate in Hawaiian language.
The Cultural Resources Commission requires specific representation from persons who possess a
knowledge and interest in local area history and an understanding of the Hawaiian culture,
practices, burial beliefs, and customs. Ms. Keakealani holds a Hawaiian Lifestyles Certificate
from Hawaii Community College and is a Ka`upulehu and Pu`uanahulu lineal descendant active
in burial treatment plan developing and monitoring.
Ms. Keakealani is Director of Ka Pilina Poina `ole, on the Kaupulehu Education Team, as well
as co-founder, past board member and present staff of Hui Aloha Kiholo, creating, maintaining,
and implementing curriculumn and educational activities. Her vast list of volunteer and
community service projects spans from documenting historic trails to Aloha `Aina. If confirmed,
she will serve a term to end December 31, 2026.
Your favorable confirmation is requested. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Aloha,
