Aloha Council Chair David and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Aaron Spielman of District I for appointment to the Cultural
Resources Commission. He is interested in serving on the Cultural Resources Commission to
support efforts to identify, manage, and protect historic properties and archeological sites within
the County.
The Cultural Resources Commission requires specific representation from professionals with
special interest in architecture and architectural history in order to nominate historic sites to the
State and National registers. Mr. Spielman, born and raised on Hawai'i Island, is a graduate of
Hawai'i Preparatory Academy and holds a master's degree in architecture with a minor in
architectural history from Savannah College of Art and Design.
Since returning to Hawaii full-time in 2002, Mr. Spielman has completed historical preservation
projects with the Kona Historical Society through a NEH/living history ranch grant and since
2014, is the Principal Architect at Nanea Studio. He actively serves the community through the
Rotary Club of North Hawai'i and St. James Community Meal Service. If confirmed, he will
serve a term to end December 31, 2026.
