Subject: Dire Situation That Needs Your Attention and Help
Dear Council members, I'm writing to all of you with a dire situation that has been presented to me and I
must bring to your attention.
The closing of the three HRR animal shelters in Kona, Waimea, and Keeau by the County Of Hawaii is a
disastrous, unethical, and an inhumane action.
I currently am fostering multiple animals from HRR (A pitbull/terrior mix and 3 kittens) and I am happy to do
so, because I know this Island and County needs help with the animals. I have also brought multiple
animals to them who were in dire need of medial attention, and because of them (HRR) they were able to
provide the medical attention each of those animals needed to live.
Now with the Council shutting down these safe havens and medical care services, what will come of all
those animals? And what of individuals like myself who love animals and wish to help them?
Leaving them homeless or euthinizing them is not the right course of action. The animals should not suffer
due to a lack of human error and mismanagement. There are other alternatives.
In 2020 Greater Good Charities and Wings of Rescue humanly removed hunders of animals off island to multiple
shelters on the main land to find homes. This is a viable option. With the amount of money the County has been
spending this is an easy option to take.
There are also options that we can look to our neighbor islands as role models. On Lanai they have the Lanai Cat
Sanctuary. Where they have had a major success in curbing the feral cat population on their island. What I'm
proposing is to take a similar action they have implemented and provide a sanctuary for any animal in need.
Yes we have issues with invasive species on our island, cats, pigs and dogs. But we can work to fix all of this by

providing those animals a new home and place to live out their lives on this beautiful piece of paradise we call home.
Please take note of these actions that are being taken on these harmless animals. This is a grave injustice that I hope
you don't let come to fruition.
With only till 5pm HST tomorrow June 30th 2021 we have no time to lose.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope we can all work together to help these animals and make our
island a better place for them and us.
