Dear County Council Members,
As a 40 year resident of the Big Island and a working person (ER and critical care RN) I am submitting
testimony in opposition to the nomination of Ms.Armbruster to the Leeward Planning
Commission. Over the years the wool has been pulled over the eyes of the working people of this county
and state by big money and development interests in the name of short term gain. It's deliberately deceitful
to ignore and downplay the long term consequences to a naive population that trusts it's public servants
and politicians to have their best interests and quality of life at heart.And it's become obvious that trust has
been misplaced. Development has been allowed to proceed without regard to infrastructure and quality of
life of those who live here.We now have impossibly crowded roads, home and property prices that literally
only a millionaire can afford, and lower than ever wages. This is what has resulted by appointing and
electing people like Ms Armbruster. During the 7 years that Ms.Armbruster has been a Hawai'i Island
resident, she has served as project manager for Tinguley Development, one of West Hawaii's largest real
estate development and general contracting firms (whose firm has provided donations to Mayor Roth's
campaign). Not going to be someone who has the working people's interest at heart.
We urge to to instead consider Ku'ulei Keakealani, who is a Native Hawaiian female applicant with
generations of connection to the people and stories of this land. Ms. Keakealani has professional
experience as the cultural director for hui aloha Kiholo and Ka'upulehu Interpretive Center at Kalaemano.
In addition, she has been a community member with numerous organizations including the federal rivers
and trails conservation program, Kai Kuleana Network, Hui Loko Network, Hawaii Association for the
Education of Young Children, Kaupulehu Foundation, and Pu'uwa'wa'a Advisory Council to name a few.
It's time we stop being sold down the river for big money interests. We have a unique opportunity here to
support real jobs and sustainability on this island and in this state. Ms Armbruster's 7 years as a resident
and development manager in West Hawai'i does not represent this perspective. I urge you to vote NO on
communication 279.
