Dear Hawaii County Council Members, I
I am writing in opposition to the nomination of Ms. Shani Armbruster to the Leeward Planning
Commission. Ms. Armbruster represents Tinguley Development,one of West Hawaii's largest real
estate and contracting firms.
Hawai'i island needs a representative on the Planning Commission who has a broader understanding of
the land and its connection to the community. Someone who can balance the need for development
with the cultural significance of place.

Ku'ulei Keakealani, a native-born daughter of Hawaii, has professional experience as the Cultural I
Director for Hui Aloha Kiholo and Ka'upulehu Interpretive Center at Kalaemano. In addition, she has I
served on several community service organizations including the Federal River and Trails Conservation
Program, Kai Kuleana Network, Hawai'i Association for the Education of Young Children, Ka'upulehu
Foundation and Pu'uwa'awa'a Advisory Council.
Ms. Keakealani is an intelligent, well-respected cultural leader who will serve as a bridge, connecting the
need for development and opportunity with the traditions and legacy of the land.
I urge the Council to vote "NO" on Ms. Armbruster's nomination to the Planning Commission and
reconsider Ms. Keakealani's application.
