Aloha County Council Members—
I was born and raised on Hawaii Island, and I currently live in Waimea (District 1). 1 am a practicing architect, licensed in the
State of Hawaii. I have worked in the architecture profession for the past 21 years, with the last 19 or so years on Hawaii
Island.
In my practice,we work frequently with different Codes for residential and commercial projects. It is important to routinely
update the adopted Codes,which identify and establish the minimum life-safety requirements.
If Bill 44 does not pass, then the 2012 amended Codes will be reverted to this November by default,which is one year before
the 2018 Code will be adopted by default. In my humble opinion,this extended transition time would be unnecessary,
unproductive, and not in the interests of licensed professionals who protect the life, safety, and welfare of the public.
I am writing to request your support and favorable vote for Bill 44,to ensure the 2018 Codes are adopted.
