The trail is a system of ancient and j historic coastal and mauka-makai trails. The Ala Kahakai Comprehensive Management plan calls for descendant-led, ahupua'a community-based management of trail segments which is supported by a range of partners in both the private and public sectors. As such, we are working with many communities along the shoreline to develop and implement management plans and programs. We currently have a Memorandum of Understanding with both the State of Hawaii and Hawaii County to collaborate on the implementation of the trail's Comprehensive Management Plan. We have established effective working relationships with the County's Departments of Planning, Parks and Recreation and the Department of Finance Real Estate Division. We are in full support of the proposed acquisition of Mahukona via the PONC and other funding and commit our support to work with the Kohala community and the Hawaii County in management planning and in the procurement of Federal funding dedicated to management, interpretation, public safety, and other visitor services. Thank you for your consideration. a Best regards, Aric Arakaki, Superintendent Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail 73-5786 Kanalani Street, #14 Kailua Kona, HI 96740 Corte. RI def. To Ref. Gate 2021 1
