These historical signs, valued at approximately $10,000 will be installed at Wai'aha Beach Park to commemorate the birthplace of the bodyboard. This is a request to create a resolution to accept a donation of a historical sign commemorating the birthplace of the bodyboard to be installed at Wai'aha Beach Park, also known as Hlont°s, B. BACKGROUND AND d aTIFI ATI N U E A©DITI NAL.SHEETS AS NEE ialarna Wai'aha is a Friends of the Park group that has been providing an annual free, educational bodyboarding contest at alai"aha since 2004. Participants of the contest are asked to assist in park clean- ups in lieu of paying an entry fee. Malama Wai'aha in collaboration with part-time Hawaii resident Michael Denney ney would like to donate two historical markers to be installed at Wai'aha Beach Park. The first historical marker commemorates the creation story of the boogie boards Tom Morey created what is now known as the"boogie board" on July 7, 1971 at his erne that snood on Wai'aha Beach. The second historical marker speaks of the oldest known paipo board found in ars ancient carie on the south coast of Hai ai'i Island. Paipo boards;, previously called papa li'ilh because of it's relatively smallsize are commonly referred to as the first b6dyboard because it conceived to be ridded in the prone position, The total value of this donation is $10,000, l lalama Wai'aha c/o 75-5789 Makamae Pl.
