The presentation will be about Sentinel Landscape partnerships and is expected to be approximately 15 minutes in length to be followed by a question-and-answer period. The Sentinel Landscape partnership consists of three federal agencies the Department of Interior(DOI) (including the U.S. Fish &Wildlife Service (USFWS)), the U.S. Department of Agriculture(USDA) Hawaiian Electric Co (including the Natural Resource Conservation Service(MRCS) and the U.S. Forest Howard Hughes Corp. Service), and the Department of Defense (DoD). These three federal agencies have agreed that geographic regions that the three agencies designate a"Sentinel Landscape" Molokai General Hospital will receive priority funding under the agencies' existing voluntary conservation and climate resiliency programs. After consultation with DoD, USFWS, U.S. HJPConsulting Forest Service, and NRCS, we hope to propose Hawaii Island (in addition to Kauai and most of Oahu) for designation. Conservationist Gretlr H Takara Morgan Stanley Recently, the REPI program granted DLNR over$1 million of federal funds for wildfire threat mitigation on Hawai'i Island and Oahu. Wildfire is a shared concern among the three federal agencies in the Sentinel Landscape partnership,the State, and the counties and is one of the immediate climate resiliency projects our proposal hopes to advance. The proposed Sentinel Landscape designation is broadly supported by the entire federal Congressional delegation, the State(Department of Land and Natural Resources, Agribusiness Development Corporation), other counties (so far, the Mayor and Council Chair of the City and County of Honolulu, and Chair and Vice- Chair of Kauai County Council), conservation NGOs (The Nature Conservancy, Hawaii Land Trust), and many others. Mayor Mitch Roth has indicated his preliminary support and is working on a letter. The full proposal is due at the end of August, and we are hoping for a letter of support from the County Council or Council Chair by August 23, 2021 so that we can include it in our proposal package. We should know at the end of December whether our proposal is successful. We would welcome the opportunity to present further information to the County Council and answer any questions.
