Your Committee on Public Works and Mass Transit, to which was referred Communication No. 334,
reports as follows:
Communication No. 334, transmitted by the Honorable Mayor Mitch Roth, dated July 15, 2021,
nominates Kristy Cruz of Council District 5 to the Transportation Commission.
Executive Assistant to the Mayor, P6maika'i Bartolome, introduced Mr. John Andoh, Interim Mass
Transit Administrator, to answer any questions or provide explanation as needed. Ms. Bartolome
introduced the nominee, Ms. Kristy Cruz, who is a lifelong Hawai'i Island resident and, since 2013,
is the Food and Lodging Lead at Mauna Kea Services, Inc., managing logistics, materials, and
supplies in support of scientists and contractors on Mauna Kea, requiring exceptional supervisory,
organizational, and collaborative skills and specific knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations
and requirements. She is a committed member of theMountain View Elementary School Community
Council and the current president of the Parent Teacher Student Association. If confirmed, she would
serve a full five-year term to end December 31, 2026.
Although Ms. Cruz was unable to be present, Chair Lee Loy remarked that she had a conversation with
Ms. Cruz yesterday and felt comfortable with sending the favorable recommendation to Council.
Other Committee Members expressed wanting to ask the candidate a few questions, but were also
willing to send the favorable recommendation as long as Ms. Bartolome could assure them Ms. Cruz
would be available at the next meeting.
Your Committee is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 334, and recommends
confirmation of the appointment of Ms. Kristy Cruz to the Transportation Commission.
