'0 La Crivello ko'u inoa. Noho au ma 'O'oma, Kona, Hawaii. This letter is written in support of Ku'ulei
Keakealani in her nomination to the county cultural resources commission.
I met'Anake Ku'ulei as a field technician during my internship with Ka'upulehu Tropical Dry Forest
I
Preserve in North Kona. During this time I also worked as the Coordinator for Ala Kahakai Trail 3
Association (ATA). During this time, 'Anake Ku'ulei had a strong presence within not only Ka'upulehu,
but the community as a whole. I had the pleasure of learning from her at both of these work
environments and vividly remember hearing her tell stories of place, people, and culture. I have always
known her to be a woman of significance in our community and she soon became a guiding force in the
standards to which I have developed for myself. Upon the completion of my internship, I continued to
work for ATA while accepting another role as the Cultural Liaison at Hokuli'a Park and Cultural Sites
Association.The lessons I learned at Ka'upulehu from both 'aina and po'e Hawaii have completely I
transformed who I am today and continue to guide me through important decisions every day. 'Anake
Ku'ulei is someone who has consistently provided support and safe haven for my mind, my heart, and
my spirit and when hearing that she is being nominated to the commission I felt an onslaught of

emotion: Relief to know that this role will be filled by someone whom I know our community can
depend on, strength in knowing that we can reclaim our roles within this society,joy at the
acknowledgement that she is receiving as a valuable asset to this subset of our government, and a
variety of other feelings.
'Anake Ku'ulei Keakealani has been a mentor and guiding light in my growth and development as a po'e
Hawaii,woman in STEM,and indigenous conservationist. In my time knowing her I have learned the
importance of balance with regard to the management of natural and cultural resources as well as grace
in listening and considering the voices of all seats at the table. 'Anake Ku'ulei is a most trusted advisor
and will be the best fit for the role of county cultural resources commission member. Our community
deserves to be represented by a woman such as'Anake Ku'ulei.
