Subject: Nomination of Kuulei Keakealani to serve on the County Cultural Commission

The Board of the Ala Kahakai Trail Association(ATA), a 501(c)3 nonprofit,whose mission and
purpose is to preserve and protect the Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail, strongly supports the
nomination of Ms. Kuulei Keakealani to serve on the Cultural Resource Commission. Our Board
has worked with Ms. Keakealani favorable in the past and look forward to a continued relationship
with her in the future.
Ms. Keakealani will bring to the commission a wealth of knowledge of Hawaiian culture resources
and practices. She and her Ohana have spent generations practicing conservation and preservation
practices in all of the aina her family has had the privilege of calling home. Ms. Keakealani has
immersed herself in her work and community projects that clearly demonstrate her ability to do the
scope of work authorized by this commission.
The ATA Board believes Ms. Keakealani will be a tremendous asset to the commission.
