Aloha,
Writing in support of Bill 44 on adoption of the 2018 Building Code with County Amendments.
As a former resident in Hilo and current Architect on Oahu doing projects on Big Island, I strongly support the I
transparent and methodical process that has gone into the code amendments and this single adoption of the 2018 code.
Without this bill the County will default to the unmodified 2012 code this November and then need to adopt the 2018
code a year later. This is unnecessary confusion changing codes so quickly and the County wants to make
amendments to suit the unique character and environment of Big Island.
