Dear County Council Members,

I am writing in support of Bill 44.
i
However, the Proposed Amendments by Council Member Kaneali'i-Kleinfelder in Communication 0281.016 needs to
be rejected. We need to ensure the safety of our buildings to withstand seismic, wind, and gravity forces. When
designing a structure, it is paramount that we meet or exceed the design criteria to withstand these forces. The
requirement to submit calculations is an essential tool needed to protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens
of Hawaii.
I also reject the proposed Amendments by Council Member Villega in Communication 0281.017. I believe more
information is needed to understand the implications of the change of language. Who benefits from this change? What
are the broader implications of this change?
Please reject both proposed amendments.
