Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 185-21, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 185-21, transmitted by Director of Finance Deanna S. Sako via Communication No. 354,
dated July 30, 2021, authorizes the acceptance of a donation of labor and materials to the Department of
Parks and Recreation.
The donation from Kona Aquatics is valued at approximately $10,000 and would be used at the Kona
Community Aquatic Center.
Committee Members Rebecca Villegas and H61eka Goro Inaba both provided comments expressing
gratitude to Kona Aquatics for the donation and to the Department of Parks and Recreation for working
with the community to fill gaps of need.
Department of Parks &Recreation Deputy Director Michelle M. Hiraishi echoed Ms. Villegas' and
Mr. Inaba's comments in gratitude for the donation.
Pursuant to Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter, the Council may accept gifts of donations of
money, securities or other personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate. In addition,
Section 2-162(a), Hawaii County Code, states that any gifts or donations of money, securities, or
personal property which fall within the capitalization procedures of the Department of Finance may be
accepted by resolution approved by the Council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 185-21, and
recommends its adoption.
