Subject: support Reso. 172-21
I am writing in support of Reso. 172-21 to support the naming of the Pahoa Roundabout in memory of
Rene Siracusa to honor her life, legacy, and significant contributions to Puna.
I first met Rene at her old office in downtown Pahoa, a musty little space to which she came voluntarily to
work for actions that supported Puna. She devoted her life to being a community activist without ever being
paid. She was a wonderful writer, a sharp analyst, and supported such a diverse array of causes, from
clothing baseball teams in uniforms, supporting lifeguard training, advocating for protection of native
species and open spaces. She did this with her grant writing skills using Malama O Puna as a fiscal
umbrella for these causes, and never asked for much in return. Naming the Roundabout after her is a very
fitting tribute to her love of nature and gardening and will remind the community, and be an example of a I
citizen who served the public with great determination for many years.
Sincerely, Page Else, resident of Nanawale Estates
