I am writing in opposition to resoulution 172-21 . I am not in support of the naming of the j
Pahoa Roundabout in memory or Rene Siracusa.
The resolution is to honor the life, legacy and significant contributions of community members

I would like to nominate G-girl Philmen Kalalau Keliihoomalu, who as served as a pillar in the
3
Puna COMMUNITY.
Philmen G-girl Kalalau Keliihoomalu married Robert Keliihoomalu Jr. and became an avid and
contributing member of the Puna as well as on Hawaii Island Community.
f
G-girl led by example and her contributions to the Puna community came to people in a
wholistic artform of mele, haku mete, teaching and community envolvement through her
offering of her natural talents and gifts.
The values and leadership within Pahoa school as a volunteer teacher gave her many lived
experiences of caring and exemplifying Aloha. Truly, she became not just teacher but also
counselor for the youth of Puna. Often times, along with raising eleven children and two hanai
children she always found time to be a guiding light for other youth in the community.
G-girl Keliihoomalu was able to bridge the Puna community with other Hawaii Island
communities through her music, she was beloved in all the communities that she interacted
with and loved. Mrs. Keliihoomalu traveled extensively advocating through her music for
envionmental wellness, family and aloha. She build many bridges that allowed for peaceful
interactions within the Puna community and the bigger communities of US and beyond.
The decendants of G-girl work also worked in the community of Puna and inspired many youth,
families and communities by their music. Often times, doing these important "gigs" for state,
county and communities without any thought for themselves. Truly a gift of aloha.
This has sent generational vibrations that continue to vibrate through the Puna community
today as it has when she was alive. She has instilled a sense of pride in the old lineal
understanding of Puna and has been a pillar for the community and her'ohana who still carry
on the work.
