Council Members,
There has been discussion of eliminating County structural review from the permit process. The
reason we have this review is to insure that the code is followed and that substandard structural
calculations are identified and changed. Without this review the quality of buildings in our County
will continually be lowered.
As per my July 4th email to the Council, please support Bill 44 to make one transition now to the
2018 code that has been amended for our island. If the County fails to support this bill now, then
we still have to follow State law. That will be the State version of the 2012 or 2018 codes which will
not be coordinated administratively with the County. This coordination with the 2018 has been
worked on by DPW. Capitalize on this completed work and pass Bill 44.
