This letter is in support of Bill 44, opposing the proposed amendments as drafted. The
passage of Bill 44 will allow for the County of Hawai`i to implement the most current
state building codes. We need housing options for our diverse community, to offset the
hardships families are facing. COVID-19 has created many struggles and the eviction Advisory Board
moratorium is being lifted this week, so decisions that strengthen families are extremely
important at this time. According to the CDC,preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences
(ACEs) can occur when we help children grow up in a safe and stable environment. Georgine Busch
Factory built homes are an important solution to housing insecurity in our community.
The passage of Bill 44 will provide for a measure of stability with codes that will be in
place for a minimum of the next two years as we await the next state code adoption. This Greg Chun, PhD
stability will allow for much needed housing construction to continue with hopefully
minimal disruption. Again, this letter is in support of Bill 44 and in opposition of the
proposed amendments that would adversely impact factory built housing as a viable Marta Derieg, MD
housing option for our community.
