HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0315.030 2020-2022 Aloha no,
My name is La Crivello and I am a resident of'O'oma ahupua'a in North Kona. My family has
genealogical ties to Ho`okena, South Kona. This letter intends to provide support for the County to
authorize PONC funding towards the preservation of Kiolaka'a in Ka`u.
Having traversed the coastline of Kiolaka'a, I have physically experienced the overwhelming
connection that our kupuna had to this wahi pana. The presence of our ancestors is clear as ancient
houses, walls, and other culturally significant structures scatter the area. The presence of these
structures provide insight into culture and the movement of our people over time while simultaneously
reminding me of what matters in the present. During my time hiking along the trails in Kiolaka'a I find
myself drawn to the plethora of native plant species and the intact coastal habitat. The coastline is rich in
biodiversity that has ceased to exist in other areas of our island home. There is so much beauty worth
preserving and so much mana worth protecting.
With all that being said—and much that has not been mentioned—I hope that Resolution 161 to
authorize County PONC funding will be approved and that our community can continue to move forward
together to protect Kiolaka'a.
