Aloha Council Chair David and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Melissa Leilani DeMello of District 5 to the Puna Community
Development Plan Action Committee.
Leilani is a long-time resident of Hawaii, at home in Puna since 2005. She recognizes the rich
history, culture, and resources of the district, and is ready to step into her kuleana to actively
participate and contribute to the betterment of the community. She holds a bachelor's degree in
Hawaiian studies from UH Hilo and is the Director of Operations for Ku A Kanaka and co-host
of the Ka Leo O ka Uluau podcast.
Leilani is a strong communicator and organizer and an avid community volunteer, currently
dedicating time and energy to Project Hawaii, Honua Ola Place-Based Learning and Na Wa`a
Mauo. If confirmed, she will serve a term to end December 31, 2024.
