I
My name is Pakalana Kaneta-Nobriga and I'm writing this to express how the COVID-19 policies have affected our lives for comm 360
in hopes for change to the COVID-19 policies and programs. I am a mother of two. Rylana who is eight years old who has multiple
syndromes, no speech, G-tube fed and wheelchair-bound. Mia who is one and a half who keeps me on my toes. Before the pandemic
Rylana had appointments every few months with her multiple specialist on Oahu. We had only been able to see them through video
and I believe in person visits are really beneficial for her.Just going to see her PCP and dentist can be a challenge with all the rules
and regulations in place imagine having a toddler and a disabled child. It can be a challenge but with a lot of the policies, it can make 3
every day life a lot more tough.A grocery run is time consuming due to the long wait outside because at one point the stores were
only allowing a certain amount of people in or register lines being backed up due to the 6 feet rule and not being able to put your
groceries on the belt until called upon. Rushing to get back home to put Rylana on her gtube feed.These things may sound like little
things, but for families like us all the little things add up. My toddler can't even see her moms face half the time.One day Mia found
a mask at home and started covering her nose and mouth, I took it away and she cried for it saying mask.Children shouldn't think
that covering your body parts that allow you to breathe is normal or fun. If us as adults have to pull our mask down every so often to j
breathe or get out of breath, imagine our children. With that being said I'm going to end it with,the little things may not be a big
deal for some but for families like ours it is a very big deal.
