Subject: Communication 360 - support strong covid rules
Gov Ige Executive order 21-05:
"With COVID-19 cases going up, the State of Hawaii is taking precautions now to avert a strain on our heatdlcare
systems. To that end - I'll be signing an Executive Order that will limit social gatherings, effective immediately.
Social gatherings will be limited to no snore than 10 indoors, 25 outdoors. Patrons in restaurants, bars, establishments
must remain seated with parties maintaining six feet of distance. No mingling, and masks must be worn unless actively
eating.
All high-risk activities, such as bars, restaurants, gyres, and social estabtislunents wilt be set to 50% indoor capacity.
Counties will review proposals for all profess ionalty sponsored events (bigger than 50 people) and ensure appropriate
safe practices will be implemented."
Aloha council members and Mayor Roth,
Mahalo for having this hearing to provide information for and receive input from the public to help protect their
health.
I strongly support the Governor's latest executive order. I've also noticed that much of the public is unaware of this
order including that restaurants and gyms seemed to have been in relaxed mode as of yesterday. Therefore, it's clear
that our county will need to focus on spreading the word more broadly as well as enforcing the new rules while
considering stronger ones if needed.
The Delta variant appears to be spreading through brief, casual contact(recent study and information gathered
regarding its spread). This is disturbing and frightening, not so much for those of us who are vaccinated and healthy,
but for those who willingly threaten others by their lack of community empathy (i.e., getting vaccinated themselves),
especially those who are at special risk. And that's not to mention the health care system which is teetering already
under this new weight. Where will even unvaccinated people go if their appendix burst and there are no hospital beds
in hawaii?
My mother lives in a senior facility. She's vaccinated and has a strong immune system. But if further lockdown is
implemented to stop this next phase of covid 19, my mother could be locked into her residence for months on end
putting her at further risk of mental degradation from loneliness and lack of sufficient care. She's just one small
example, but it's my example, and it hurts just thinking about it.
So I ask the council, mayor and community to get behind these simple actions and others that can help protect not just
my mother and my `Ghana, but thousands of others who could be affected by this new and more deadly viral strain,
including those who may need to visit a hospital to potentially save their lives but find that theres's no bed and no
help for them.
